Location and History
Geology and Ecology
The bay is famous for its tall limestone cliffs that rise from the emerald-green water. These cliffs were shaped over millions of years by wind, rain, and the sea, creating the stunning rock formations and caves we see today.
Below the surface, there’s a lively marine world with coral reefs, seagrass beds, and plenty of sea life. Dolphins sometimes visit, and if you’re lucky, you might spot a sea eagle flying overhead. The bay’s mangrove forests are home to different bird species, crabs, and fish, playing a vital role in the local ecosystem.

Marine Life and Coral Reefs
The marine life in Ang Thong Marine Park is diverse and abundant, with over 80 species of fish, 5 species of sea turtles, and many other marine creatures. The coral reefs around the islands are also worth exploring, with a wide variety of hard and soft corals, sponges, and other invertebrates.

Islands
Phang Nga Bay is home to many beautiful islands, each with its own charm. Two of the most popular ones are:
James Bond Island: Officially called Khao Phing Kan, this island became famous after appearing in the 1974 James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun. Its tall limestone rock rising out of the water is a sight you won’t want to miss.
Koh Panyee: This is a floating fishing village built entirely on stilts. It’s a fascinating place that shows human creativity, and it’s a great spot to try some of the freshest seafood around.

Getting to Phang Nga Bay
Getting from Phuket to Phang Nga Bay is an adventure in itself, and here are a few ways to make the journey:
Speedboat or Longtail Boat Tours: We offer day trips from Phuket to Phang Nga Bay, starting with a pick-up from your hotel. You’ll then travel by speedboat or longtail boat, with stops at popular spots like James Bond Island and sea caves for kayaking.
Private Transportation: For more flexibility, we can arrange private transport, like a taxi or car hire, to take you directly from Phuket to Phang Nga Bay. This allows you to explore at your own pace. Keep in mind that not all sights are easy to reach on your own, so a guided day tour is ideal to see all the main highlights.
Public Buses: A budget-friendly option is taking a public bus from Phuket to Phang Nga Town. From there, you can catch a taxi or local transport to reach the bay. This option takes more time but is a great choice if you’re looking to save.

Best time to visit
The best time to visit Phang Nga Bay is from November to April, during the cool, dry season. The weather is pleasant, the seas are calm, and conditions are perfect for activities like kayaking and snorkeling. Marine life is also easier to spot during this time.
Keep in mind, though, that this is the peak season, so the bay can get busy, especially from December to February. To avoid larger crowds, try visiting in November or April.
During the rainy season (May to October), we still run day trips to Phang Nga Bay, but expect wetter weather and rougher seas. Feel free to contact us if you’re concerned about the weather, and we’ll check the latest conditions for you.
